MISI Environmental Policy

At MISI, we conduct corporate activities that aim to both preserve the natural environment and achieve economic growth. True to this pledge, our environmental policy and environmental management regulations have been drafted to protect the global environment, prevent pollution, maintain compliance with environmental laws and regulations and accurately monitor the full range of environmental risks. To ensure the proper execution of these ideas, meanwhile, we have formulated our Environmental Management System (EMS).
Since its inception as a corporate entity in 2001, MISI has steadfastly maintained its ISO 14001 certification—the international standard for EMS designed to exercise effective control over the impact our operations have on the environment. In the quest to confront global warming and preserve a healthy environment for future generations, all companies are expected to address the EMS challenge. Against this backdrop, we operate our EMS in accordance with the standards defined in ISO 14001, and aggressively use it from an environmental perspective and as an all-encompassing management initiative.

Climate Change Initiatives

For MISI, a company devoted to our stated vision of “Creating a better world,” climate change poses a particularly critical challenge among the numerous issues facing humanity today. We also consider this a field in which we can contribute on the strength of in-house know-how and networks cultivated over the years.

Intermediate Reduction Target for GHG Emissions

In seeking to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the MISI Group established the Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions intermediate reduction target of 50 percent cuts compared to fiscal 2020 by fiscal 2030. This is a goal based on scientific findings and in line with the international efforts of limiting the rise of global average temperature to 1.5℃ above preindustrial levels. We are advancing our efforts to help realize a decarbonized society.

FY2021 GHG Emissions

The following computations were compiled in fiscal 2021, with the volume of MISI Group Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions totaling 67,458 tons of CO2.

Calculation Results

Scope1 11,034t-CO2(+12.0% vs. the previous year)
Scope2 56,424t-CO2(-18.9% vs. the previous year)
Total for Scope 1 and 2 67,458t-CO2(-15.1% vs. the previous year)

Calculation that covered

Targets: 228 bases (82 companies in 25 countries)
Period: April 2021 to March 2022

Realizing a Decarbonized, Recycling-Oriented Society

Working through steel materials used by a vast range of consumers and industries, we want to contribute to building a green infrastructure, eco-friendly cars, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) and progress in other fields. We will supplement this with other programs structured to address the essential themes linked to shifts in the industrial structure as we move to supply genuinely high-added-value solutions.
