Environmental Policy
At MISI, we conduct business activities that achieve a balance between the preservation of the natural environment and economic growth. In order to fulfill this commitment, we have established our Environmental Policy and Environmental Management Regulation for environmental preservation, pollution prevention, compliance with laws and regulations, and the identification of and response to environmental risks. Additionally, we have developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) to ensure the proper implementation of these policies and regulations.
Since its inception as a corporate entity in 2001, MISI has steadfastly maintained its ISO 14001 certification—the international standard for EMS designed to exercise effective control over the impact our operations have on the environment. In the quest to confront global warming and preserve a healthy environment for future generations, all companies are expected to address the EMS challenge. Against this backdrop, we operate our EMS in accordance with the standards defined in ISO 14001, and aggressively use it from an environmental perspective and as an all-encompassing management initiative.
The ISO14001 certification coverage within the MISI Group’s locations is 34 percent.
Environmental Preservation
Being a Part of a Circular Society
The MISI Group aims to achieve harmony between business activities and environmental conservation by using resources efficiently and reducing waste.
Chemical Substances Management
The MISI Group responsibly manages chemical substances because we care about safety and environmental impact. To ensure the safer and more appropriate use of chemical substances, we comply with all relevant Japanese and international laws and regulations, while minimizing risk throughout the entire product lifecycle, from materials procurement, through transportation and sales, to final disposal. We also assess the potential impacts of chemical substances use on local ecosystems and air quality based on the latest scientific understanding. Through these efforts, we strive not only to ensure workplace safety but also to maintain ongoing dialog with local communities, reinforcing our social responsibility and credibility.
Biodiversity and Natural Capital
The MISI Group conducts analysis and evaluation of biodiversity, water, and air to understand the interaction between nature and our business activities, as well as to consider the risks to be addressed and the initiatives to be strengthened. Since fiscal 2023, we have adopted the LEAP (Locate, Evaluate, Assess, Prepare) approach based on the Recommendations of the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures. We began by focusing on “L: Locating Interfaces with Nature” and “E: Evaluating Dependencies and Impacts” as part of our initial risk screening process. In fiscal 2024, aiming to build a risk management system across the MISI Group, we promoted “A: Assessing Risks and Opportunities” and “P: Preparing for Response and Reporting,” and advanced preparations for conducting self-assessments at our Group sites.
Climate Change
For MISI, which embraces “Creating a Better World” as its vision, climate change is a particularly critical challenge among the many issues facing humanity today. We also consider this an area in which we can contribute, based on our expertise and network cultivated over the years.
Working through steel materials used by a vast range of consumers and industries, we want to contribute to building a green infrastructure, eco-friendly cars, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) and progress in other fields. We will supplement this with other programs structured to address the essential themes linked to shifts in the industrial structure as we move to supply genuinely high-added-value solutions.

Providing Total Decarbonization Solutions
Decarbonization is no longer an issue that can be solved by a single company alone, so we want to join hands and tackle this challenge together with everyone involved in the steel industry. Based on this belief, MIeCO2 was launched in September 2023 as a collaborative service with NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS, Inc. (NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS) and WasteBox Inc. (WasteBox). By combining the expertise of MISI, a leading player in the steel distribution segment, NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS, a major telecommunications company, and WasteBox, a pioneer in CO2 and environmental information disclosure consultancy, MIeCO2 offers a wide range of services to our customers.
