Iron & Steel Division-I handles steel products widely used as key structural materials in shipbuilding, plants, construction and industrial machinery, infrastructure facilities and other fields, doing business with numerous different industries both in Japan and overseas. The division works through MISI processing and sales bases, steel plate fusion cutting and molding, inventory management, domestic and overseas transport and other key trading company functions to meet the increasingly diversified needs of our customers.

Providing the Steel to Build the World’s Infrastructure

In recent years, we have supplied steel materials for infrastructure projects such as railway tracks and bridges, construction machinery and offshore structures to help develop resources, and wind power to generate clean energy. We also export high-quality rail with especially high wear resistance for use in overseas mine railways.

Focusing on Initiatives that Supply Steel
for Clean Energy Developments

With the demand for clean energy continuing to increase, wind power generation is a field attracting keen global attention. A case in point is floating offshore wind farms—for which verification testing has commenced in Japan—which are inspiring high expectations for meaningful contributions to the nation’s domestic energy supply. MISI supplies steel products for these verification tests that are used in floating bodies engineered to support wind turbines offshore, making a key contribution to creating viable future models and accumulating vital know-how. We will continue to play a pivotal role in pioneering core initiatives in Japan’s energy sector.

Playing a Role in the Stable Supply of Energy
Transporting Energy from Earth to Consumer

The Tubular Products Division contributes to the stable and efficient operations of its customers in energy development, civil engineering and construction, machinery manufacturing, and other major industries by supplying all varieties of steel pipe and incidental services. The primary focus of the Tubular Products Division is on the fields of oil and natural gas development. By mobilizing storage and processing service bases around the world, MISI does everything in its power to offer a sustained supply chain and effective asset management. The ultimate goal is to support energy development and production, and to make a solid contribution to the stable supply of energy, both at home in Japan and to countries around the world.

Support Massive Infrastructure Projects Like Oil and Gas Pipelines

Pipelines link sites producing oil and gas to consumption markets. Pipes are frequently laid on ocean floors over two thousand meters below the surface, as well as in other harsh environments such as mountainous districts, earthquake zones and on frozen ground. The resulting pipelines often comprise mammoth infrastructures extending thousands of kilometers across regional and even national borders. MISI integrates the procurement, financing and logistics for the sites and other aspects of supplying high-performance steel pipe, capably supporting optimal energy transport and routing.

Providing Integrated Management Services for Oil and Gas Field Extraction

Crude oil and natural gas resources often lie thousands of meters beneath the earth’s surface. It is often difficult to identify the structure, composition and properties of oil and gas deposits, and the size and performance needed for oil country tubular goods (OCTGs) varies widely. MISI works through its management service network—comprised of various bases around the world—to provide OCTG solutions. We first recommend the optimum materials based on data from trial bores, then procure the various types of OCTGs to suit the drilling plans, and then act in place of oil companies in handling the storage, processing, inspections, and repairs of the product, all while supplying the products on a just-in-time basis.
