From offshore to onshore — comprehensive steel pipe services for gas development off the coast of Thailand and Malaysia

Thailand and Malaysia have successfully recovered from the Asian currency crisis. Their industries and national life are supported by undersea reserves of natural gas. Gas development depends on OCTG that encase drill bits, oilrig platforms at the production site and seabed pipelines that transport the extracted gas to shore. We supply steel pipes for all these necessities, and aim to further reinforce functionality from the wellhead to demand sites.

OCTG:We carry out asset management on OCTG for four major international and government-sponsored oil companies operating in Thailand and Malaysia. After procuring OCTG based on demand analysis, transportation, storage and quality inspection, we process the goods and transport them to the platform under the just-in-time system. We are also able to combine stocks because we handle operations for a number of oil companies, thus enhancing asset efficiency.

Platforms:Platforms are the predominant off-shore facilities. Heavy-duty drilling equipment and materials are braced against the ocean current and waves by rigid structural pipe. The pipe varies in type, and procurement is often difficult due to tight supply and demand. We liaise between customers and manufacturers based on long-term contracts and have steadily supplied all major platform constructors in Thailand and Malaysia.

Pipelines:In 2006, we added another line to the seabed pipeline network in the Gulf of Thailand. We supplied the 29,000 MT of one-meter diameter line pipe running some 52 km from the Thai-Malay joint-development area into Thailand. For this project, we used high-quality corrosion-resistant steel pipe supplied by Japanese manufacturers in autumn 2005, to which anticorrosion and heavy-duty coatings were added at a plant in Malaysia to protect it against conditions on the seabed. Delivery was completed in April 2006.
